Archery Program

Student with instructor shooting bow and arrow at targets
The sport of archery is a perennial favorite in our tent-camping programs, and is introduced at many SCORE events. Archery is integrated for all ages and disabilities, and adaptive techniques are used as needed. STRIDE installed a 30 meter competition archery range on the grounds of SCORE in 2013. Having an official range makes the competition fierce! The range includes shooting distance markers for 10m, 20m, and 30m with four separate stations. Weekly archery lesson programs are in the fall and summer. Spaces are limited.

Where: SCORE, 2182 Route 203, Chatham, NY

When: Coming Soon!

Cost:  $25 administrative fee for each registered participant. (If this cost is a hardship, please contact Alli Ryan  for scholarship assistance).  STRIDE works hard to keep our programs affordable.  Please consider making a donation to help offset our program costs or cover someone who cannot afford this fee. It would be greatly appreciated!

To register, contact aryan@stride.org or 518-598-1279.

A current (within a calendar year) STRIDE application must be on file at STRIDE to participate. STRIDE reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee if you make a reservation and do not attend.

Meet Our Program Leader: Tim McDonough

Tim has been a STRIDE Wounded Warrior since 2012. He attributes much of his healing journey to STRIDE. He has been involved in adaptive archery since 2014, both shooting and coaching. Some accolades include Air Force trials Gold Medalist X2; Warrior Games Silver medalist; he was the assistant coach for AFW2 leading our team to 13 Medals over 3 years of national Warrior Games competition and the INVICTUS Games. Tim took State Championship in freestyle recurve men’s open for Colorado state 2017 and a regional silver medal for the NFAA northwest region 2018.

Safety is absolutely paramount and his first coaching philosophy. His second coaching philosophy is “have fun”; if you’re not having fun if you’re not feeling the excitement when you hear the “twang” of your bow string and watch your arrow Thwack!” Even more importantly is when you pass the knowledge of archery onto the next generation of up and coming shooters! He will break it down into these 3 things:

  1. Be safe
  2. Enjoy shooting your bow
  3. Love teaching others!

Coach Tim is excited to be back at STRIDE as the leader of our USAA Archery program, and has great plans to coach this program! As a Level III USAA Coach , he has certified 4 other volunteers as Level I and II assistants.
