(Chatham, NY) – STRIDE Adaptive Sports operates an 85 acre accessible camp located in Chatham, NY. The camp, which had been vacant for many years, is host to many outdoor education programs for local Wounded Warriors and special needs children, to fully utilize the camping skills. STRIDE operates dozens of themed outdoor education programs and tent-camping during the summer, and pairs volunteers with STRIDE athletes with disabilities for a mentoring and rehabilitative experiences. The facility is also a retreat site used by Warriors and their families in addition to serving the hundreds of kids who participate in programs STRIDE offers tent-camping, hiking, archery, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and a lodge which offers a large space for trainings, seminars and retreats.
On Friday, May 10h from 12pm till 5 pm, over 20 employees from Empire Blue Cross will join forces to assist in “Camp STRIDE Clean-Up Day” to accomplish various tasks needed to be completed before the camp becomes operational for the summer. Teams will be assigned to projects such as cleaning, trail clearing, raking, gardening and lawn care, etc.
In 2019, STRIDE Adaptive Sports provided over 11,000 free adaptive sport and recreation lessons to children & individuals with special needs and disabled service men and women (Wounded Warriors) who have sustained permanent disabilities all at no cost to our participants. STRIDE has over 350 skilled volunteer sport instructors, serves over 2000 families; and offers free programs in 18 different sports in 28 locations. STRIDE is an affiliate member of Disabled Sports USA, Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors; an official Red Cross Provider; New York Special Olympics Club, and US Paralympics Sport Club. STRIDE is recognized as one of the leading adaptive sport programs in the Northeastern United States.
