Bike Camp “I Can Ride”

Bike Camp with VolunteerSince 2006, STRIDE has partnered with Down Syndrome Resource Center and Albany Autism Society to offer the I Can Shine “I CAN RIDE!” Bike Camp yearly at Union College. This camp is designed to teach children with special needs how to ride a two-wheeled bike.

The unique five day bike riding program is coordinated through iCan Shine (formerly known as Lose the Training Wheels). The organization provides a fleet of adaptive bikes designed to ensure the success of all riders. The philosophy and technology of the program has impressive evidence for success in youth with autism or Down syndrome.

Campers participate in ninety minute sessions daily for one week. Each camper is assigned a trained volunteer who runs alongside them to ensure safety.
