Local High School Student With Special Needs Captures National Adaptive Shooting Championship

(East Greenbush, NY - July 12, 2011) – Although baseball season may be in full swing for many teenage athletes, one local teenager has his keen eye set in a different direction.  After competing in an Adaptive Shooting Tournament coordinated by USA Shooting in Fort Benning, Georgia, sixteen-year old Kyle Otto from Chatham, NY became the 2011 10-Meter Precision Air Rifle SH2 Prone National Champion, earning a gold medal for his nearly perfect performance and a spot to compete in the 2011 World Cup USA, an event where more than 500 top-ranked athletes from 60 countries attend to battle for quota places in Rifle and Pistol.  Click here to read the full release.

Columbia County Motorcycle Group Raises Money to Support Wounded Warriors and STRIDE Adaptive Sports

STRIDE Receives $24,000 Grant from US Olympic Committee Partnership with RPI Adaptive Shooting Program

STRIDE hosts 6th Annual Wounded Warrior Snowsports Event
Congressman Chris Gibson Keynote Speaker at Welcome Ceremony with Newschannel 13’s Masters of Ceremony Phil Bayly and Jessica Layton

Troy, N.Y.- On Friday, March 4th, STRIDE Adaptive Sports will welcome 20 Wounded Warriors and families who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan having sustained serious permanent injuries. They will spend a three day weekend with the STRIDE team of instructors at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort learning how to adaptive ski and snowboard.  The majority of the participants are from New York State with several from Fort Drum, NY, home of the 10th Mountain Division. Arctic Foxes Women’s Ice Hockey Organization supports STRIDE Adaptive Sports through Skating to STRIDE tournament

Clifton Park N.Y. -- Even the ice on the roads was no threat for the teams on the ice for this weekend’s Skating to STRIDE tournament on February 4th-6th at the Clifton Park Arena in Clifton Park.   The Arctic Foxes Women’s Ice Hockey Organization raised over $3,500 to support STRIDE Adaptive Sports, a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing year-round sport and recreation programs to children and individuals with special needs. Bethlehem Businesses Launch a ‘Shop Local’ Campaign to Support Charity

WOUNDED WARRIORS SERVE AS MENTORS FOR  SPECIAL NEEDS YOUTH ATHLETES FOR CAMPING WEEKEND

Permanent injuries and physical disabilities can create barriers.  But not for the eight Wounded Warriors who served as mentors during the third annual Wounded Warrior Fall Family Adirondack Camping Retreat at Moreau State Park in Glens Falls, New York for the September 24th-26th weekend.  Being paired with one on one with a child with a similar disability, the soldiers, each of whom have sustained a permanent disability as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, spent the weekend tent-camping in the Adirondacks with their families and the youth athletes and their families. 4th grade STRIDE athlete Kelly Cusack was winner of her age group in the northeast in the Regional Braille Challenge. Kelly will compete in June in the National Competition in Los Angeles on June 25.
 
 
 
Bridget Hotaling
 
STRIDE Athlete Bridget Hotaling won an award in the SkillsUSA competition at Schenectady Community College in March. Bridget went on to compete in the State Competition in April. Although she didn't win, she had a good time and got great experience.
