Lose the Training Wheels "I CAN RIDE!" Bike Camp

Since 2006, STRIDE has partnered with Down syndrome Aim High Resource Center and Albany Autism Society to offer the Lose The Training Wheels "I CAN RIDE!" Bike Camp, designed to teach children with special needs how to ride a two-wheeled bike.

BIKE CAMP 2013:  June 24 - 28
Union College, Achilles Rink
Union Blvd, Schenectady, NY 12303

This unique five-day camp of bike riding is coordinated through the Lose the Training Wheels organization, now called  iCan Shine!, who provide a fleet of adaptive bikes specifically designed to ensure success for all riders. The educational philosophy and the adaptive technology of the equipment produce impressive statistical evidence for success in youth with autism or down syndrome.  We also offer hand-cycling lessons to students with mobility impairments who would like the opportunity to ride a hand-cycle using arm pedaling.

Campers participate in 90 minute sessions every day for one week. Each camper is assigned a volunteer who runs alongside the bicyclist to ensure safety.
